Virginia Honor Band
The Virginia Band &
Orchestra Directors Association (VBODA) established the Virginia
Honor Band recognition and award. Bands achieving superior ratings at
the state marching festival and district concert festival are recognized
with the highest honor that can be bestowed upon bands by the VBODA.
In 1990, the VBODA established the longtime recognitions. They are
the Ten Year Honor Band Award, the Fifteen Year Honor Roll Recognition
and the Twenty Year “Hall of Fame” Award. The same awards were
established to recognize the directors achieving these same levels; the
Ten Year Honor Band Director, Fifteen Year Honor Roll Recognition and
the Twenty Year “Hall of Fame” Director.
Blacksburg is a “Ten Year Honor Band,” a “Fifteen Year Honor Band,”
and a recipient of the Twenty Year “Hall of Fame” Award. Dr. Diana Love
retired from Blacksburg High School as a “Ten Year Director” and a
“Fifteen Year Director.” Darrell Pearman earned the honor four years
during his tenure at Woodbridge High School. He added additional years
with the 2008-09 and 2009-10 honors at Blacksburg High School.
